Land surveying is a technique through which land is measured for allocation .it was firstly projected by Thomas Jefferson. It was done after the revolutionary war, as the federal government was responsible as thirteen colonies of the west divided. The land also has to be divided for that surveying is needed.

The land Ordinance of 1785 helped in systematic surveying of land and Northwest ordinance of 1787 started the rectangular survey system. There are many techniques used in land surveying.

• 3-D surveying

A field surveyor does the basic function of measuring, mapping and observing. The vital tool used for this purpose is Total station. Leveling is used for measuring the difference between the elevations of two points on the ground. The difference between the elevations can also be measured by theoretical geometry. This is 3-d surveying.
