Some important terms with context to land surveying

Land surveying is concerned with the measurements hence there are standard measurements which have been explained in the article. Some of the terms are as follows:

  • Aliquot part: Aliquot part is the standard subdivisions of a section like a half section, quarter section and even a quarter- quarter section.
  • Base line: A parallel of latitude which runs through an arbitrary point which is taken as the starting point for all the sectionalized land within a given area.
  • Cadastral: this deals with the boundaries of the land parcels.
  • Initial point: This is referred to the starting point of the survey.
  • Land grant: The land grant is an area of the land wherein the title was conferred on to the land before the predecessor government, however it is been confirmed by the U.S. Government.
  • Principal meridian: The meridian line which runs through an arbitrary point which is chosen as a starting point for all the sections of land within a given area.
